FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT 5 MASON COUNTY
Chairperson Griffey called the meeting of January 26, 2005, to order at 10 A.M. Present were Commissioner Taylor and Chief Knight.
The minutes of the meeting of 1/12/05 were read. MOTION MADE BY TAYLOR AND SECONDED BY GRIFFEY TO APPROVE THE MINUTES AS READ. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
The minutes of the meeting of 1/13/05 were read. MOTION MADE BY TAYLOR AND SECONDED BY GRIFFEY TO APPROVE THE MINUTES AS READ. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
Glenn Taylor and Tom Brokaw asked about the notices sent to the Journal for the Special Meeting.
General Information:
Chief Knight handed out copies of a Cash Flow report. The report illustrates cash and expenses in 2004. A brief discussion followed.
Chief provided copies of the Mason County Assessor’s Levy chart for the entire county. He noted that Fire District 6 is authorized to collect $1.50, however the $1.50 is prorated and they are allowed $1.29 per thousand dollars.
Chief Knight spoke of the need to refinance our bonds. The State Treasurer financing program is offering 4% and we are at 5.6%. We should consider looking at that program. We have to apply every three months. Chief Knight will be looking into options. More discussion followed.
The closing for the land sale will be the week of Jan 31. Chairperson Griffey and Secretary Clark will sign the papers at the escrow office in Allyn.
Business for Consideration:
THE VOUCHERS WERE REVIEWED. MOTION MADE BY TAYLOR AND SECONDED BY GRIFFEY TO APPROVE FOR PAYMENT VOUCHERS #20632-20633 TOTALING $122,447.84 FOR PAYROLL. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
MOTION MADE BY TAYLOR AND SECONDED BY GRIFFEY TO APPROVE FOR PAYMENT VOUCHERS #20634 THROUGH AND INCLUDING #20681 TOTALING $40,379.79. MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
PUBLIC COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS:
Glenn Taylor asked if there is a bond or levy planned? Also, what is happening with the advisory committee?
Chairperson Griffey stated that once a committee is formed, a chair is elected and a meeting schedule is set, the Commissioners can give more direction. Griffey stated that they would like to see the committee formed prior to the board giving guidelines. A commissioner can attend the committee meeting on occasion to be a resource. The committee chairperson will bring information to the board for review and consideration.
Glenn stated that 5 people including him are interested in participating, and they need guidelines so they will know what they are looking for. He would like to get started as soon as possible
Mr. Brokaw said he thinks the board should set up the guidelines and expectations first then recruit committee members.
Glenn restated that he wants to get something going soon and he suggested something like, sending letters to volunteers asking for their help by serving on a committee for equipment replacement.
Chairperson Griffey stated that we have asked for volunteers to come forward, and once the committee is formed the board will provide guidance.
